New Wifi Configuration On Both Campuses

You may have noticed the wifi list looks a little different on campus. We have unified our wifi and condensed our networks.

We have removed FCS Staff, LSNet Chromebook, and the Security newtork.

FCS Devices is what you should use for all FCS owned devices. For personal devices (phones or personal laptops), please use FCS Wifi. There is also a Guest network for guests on campus.

Learn Student Names in Veracross

Veracross has a great “Name Game” feature to help you learn your students names! This is especially important for those of us teaching virtually. Instructions are below, but please note that student’s names and faces are blocked out for privacy purposes.

On your Veracross homepage, click gradebook under a course.

Then click the Students tab.

Next, click Memorize Name Game.

You will now have the ability to “Learn Names” and see photos of your students! You can also test yourself in an easy or hard mode.

Getting Your Chromebook Ready For The School Year

If your Chromebook hasn’t been used for most of the summer, it will need to be charged and updated. Follow these instructions on how to get your device up and running for the school year!

Charge Overnight

  • If your device has been off for most of the summer, it will need a good charge. Plug your device in and charge overnight.
  • If your battery is completely dead, the charging light may be red before turning orange (indicating it’s charging) and then green (indicating it’s fully charged)

Update To Latest OS

  • Google frequently pushes out updates to enhance your Chromebook
  • It is essential your device is up to date so you can participate in video calls and stream content this year
  • To check for updates, copy and paste chrome://os-settings/help into a new browser tab
    • If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically
    • When the update is complete, you will be prompted to restart your device
  • Here is a video walkthrough on updating your Chromebook

Tips And Tricks

  • Most issues (wifi not connecting, glitching, freezing) can be resolved with a factory reset
  • Keep tabs and background programs to a minimum when on a video call
  • Disconnect any devices not in use while streaming a video or on a video call (phones, video games systems). Even being connected to wifi but not in use takes up bandwidth
