So much has happened and we’ve only been here for 5 days! Our family is so nice. The parents don’t speak English, and neither do their two children, Rodrigo and Mirella. Our host parents’ names are Jhon and Ide. The very first night they took us to a Father’s Day festival at Mirella’s school. Jhon won an award for being a great dad! He got a radio as the prize, which we now listen to music on a lot. Over the weekend, we had a lot of free time to explore. We eat meals with our family, which are delicious, and then we are free to walk around. The city is so beautiful!! The mountains are stunning. We went to the Plaza de Armas which is the main square in Cusco. There are people dancing all of the time there, and there are so many little shops. By far, Sunday night has been my favorite night here. Our family and the other people staying in the house, Wanda, Steve, Altina and Adrian all had a dance party. We danced for hours until we all were too tired to continue. We held hands and danced in a circle and Rose and I talked about American music while Jhon taught us about typical Peruvian music.
Our house has a courtyard as soon as you walk in, so we eat our meals outside! The family has a dog named Pulga, who is adorable.
Yesterday, we had our first day at the clinic and at school. I loved working with the kids and helping them. I also hope school will help me with my Spanish speaking. After school some of us got picarones, a delicious donut served with honey. We all ate them on the steps of the Plaza de Armas surrounded by the beautiful mountains illuminated in the night sky.
So sorry this was very long!
