After Mr. McDonnell assigned us to think of an important historical event, change the outcome of that event, and think about how it would change our lives today, many people automatically went to changing the course of wars, or presidential assassinations. But I decided to go all the way back to the beginning. What do you think life would be like the Dinosaurs never went extinct?
Scientists believe that the Dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago through the impact of a “celestial object” and/or “vast volcanic eruptions”. And humans have only been around for 5 to 7 million years. So, it would most likely be impossible for dinosaurs to survive through that much time, and who knows if they would even be able to survive in today’s world. But, put that all aside, and think about what life would be if they were here with us today.
For starters, the food chain would probably be a little different. Think about when you see an ant. Most of the time your first instincts would be to move it out of the way, or even squash it. But either way, most of the time we see the ant as nothing but a spec on the ground. We are the dominant species. It’s our world and they are just living it. In my mind, that’s exactly how the Dinosaurs would see us. We would be nothing but mere specs on THEIR ground. Our world would be shaped around around them.
Dinosaurs are much stronger than us. There would be no way for us to take control of the planet. So realistically, who even knows if we would still be around at this time. If we were weren’t extinct, there would probably be very few of us left, and it would probably be a fight for survival. If you really think about it, would the advancements made in today’s society even have been made? Most likely not. Essentially, the whole life line of the human race would never have happened. So basically forget everything about the past 5/7 million years and replace it with dinosaurs walking around.
There is actually some question as to whether the dinosaurs may come back in 2050. It’s definitely a far-fetched concept, but it has been predicted that humans will be able to bring them back in some form by the year 2050. There was a pregnant T-Rex fossil found a few years ago, where DNA was extracted. This DNA will help to advance the process of animal cloning of T-Rexs and other dinosaurs. So who knows, maybe by the year 2050, we will have to live with the terrifying idea that our world will no longer ours.
I wonder if some version of dinosaur would have become self aware the way humans did. It’s doubtful humanity would have ever developed. I wonder if it would actually be possible to clone a dinosaur…
