last week we talked a lot about Judaism and ahberham. I had gone to Perlman Jewish days school for all of the elementary school so I was very familiar with most of the conversations. it was interesting to hear a less Jewish side of the history and refreshing to talk about something I haven’t talked about in almost 4 years. we also have been talking about Jesus and his rise to remembrance. it is crazy that he grew fame so much after his lifetime. and interesting to hear about his devoted followers and life story. because I am Jewish I never really was told any story about him or who he was so this was a first for me

Recently in class, have learned about the Buddha and his story tells that there is a boy that lives in confined walls and is never seen anything bad one day he leaves his house when he sees 3 dying people. he finally realizes that the world is evil and leaves on a spiritual journey.  he becomes a Buddhist monk and at points doesn’t eat for long periods he finally concludes cut life is sad. everything is sad but if you do meditation that you can be tranquil. I think this is a cool idea and even though I’m Jewish I appreciate the relation. Related in class we also talked about how memories can be painful and I thought Back To really happy experiences with friends and family and how painful it can be to look back on good memories I never really thought about it before but memories can indeed be painful. We also Dissected a painting called The Vinegar tasters on the painting there are three people trying vinegar each one of them has a different look on their face it’s cool because you can see three different people taste the same thing and all have different outlooks these represent 3 religions and their outlooks on life. Similarly oftentimes when I read the same thing or try the same food twice I have a different outlook on it I wonder if some people feel like that with life one day you might have an opinion the next day your opinion might be different and that is kind of a full-circle moment with the vinegar tasters.

Recently in class, we have learned bout Confucianism and I think it is really cool. I think the levels in ranking Of people and why are they are in those ranks is interesting. Confusion says that a man will never teach a man who doesn’t want to learn. I think that’s an awesome statement and should be applied to a lot of things. People who don’t want to learn or are not curious should not be given the privilege of a teacher. Another thing confusion said is that to Practice Li you must respect Elders parents teachers etcetera. This rule is still carried out in the United States and many other religions. For example in the Ten Commandments, one commandment is that thou shall respect their parents. And I think it is very true in order to be a good and active member of society you must respect others. We also learned about yin yang.  I never knew what the yin-yang represented so it was fascinating to hear all about the history and meaning. It was cool that if there’s a waterfall the slow-moving water is Yang and the white water is yin. We also talked about the force from Star Wars and how you have it or don’t have it and how we could relate that the other methodologies. I thought it was cool how we were comparing thousand-year-old Ideas to two relatively modern Concepts. It really put Confucianism into perspective and how we still have similar practices and ideas today. Overall I thought Confucianism was unique in the sense that It is still very relevant today. While many religions and methods from the past would be considered outdated today while Confucianism Could still be considered modern thinking. When I think about So many Old methods of Very conservative laws and thinking where is Confucianism is the opposite.

my feelings on religion.

I have mixed feelings about religion. I am Jewish and I feel like I belong in the Jewish community I love celebrating the holidays and feeling like I belong. while I am not sure if I believe in all the stories and legends I respect those who do. on the other hand, religion can get too powerful and can become evil. when Judaism gets extreme it is called ultra-orthodox, there are many things in the ultra-orthodox community that I do not agree with. for example woman must wear wigs in public,, and boys and girls should not socialize. while I do not agree with some orthodox Jewish practices I do not think all of Judaism is bad. in my opinion, there is an extreme to all religions.

A few weeks ago I was in Milan and we were next to the Duomo.  it was so huge and magnificent I’d never seen anything like it.  I thought to myself that if God wasn’t real and none of the stories were true what an epic waste of resources we have used up on building churches synagogues Cetera. But then I remembered the benefits even if none of it is true. Religion creates a community Of like-minded people. It creates a sense of belonging and gives people a reason to live.  It Keeps us from some wars And brings us together in Dark Times. So even if there is no afterlife or whatever your religion believes it’s still A wonderful thing to be a part of.

Along with the duomo, I also visited the Vatican In Rome. Inside the Vatican, there were hundreds of paintings and sculptures. My tour guide told us stories about the pictures and sculptures and how they were created hundreds of years ago. Many of the paintings were religious and Represented scenes from the Bible. Some of them were so beautifully painted that you couldn’t tell if it was a painting or a picture. And I thought to myself how religion has produced so many Of the most famous art pieces in the world
