Q: Do boys have an equivalent to periods?
A: Short answer: No.
Longer answer: The female menstrual cycle is produced by a complex series of hormonal changes that happen every month. As different levels of hormones rise and fall in females, body changes occur such as: releasing an egg cell from the ovary, thickening of the uterine lining, and shedding that lining if pregnancy doesn’t occur.
Male hormones also fluctuate, but not in the same predictable cyclic monthly pattern. Men’s testosterone levels can vary from day to day and even seasonally, but there aren’t the same kind of predictable monthly hormone cycles that we see in females. Also, since males don’t have a uterus or vagina there is no period.
