NFL Draft for the League’s 100th Season

The 2019 NFL Draft took place on Thursday, April 25th in front of a huge Nashville crowd 600,000 people strong. The draft began with a lucky fan winning 100 years of season tickets to their favorite teams games, this was done to celebrate the 100th year of the NFL’s existence. Gregory R. Hampton was the lucky winner of two season tickets to New York Giants for many years to come. After he accepted his award Commissioner Roger Goodell came to the podium and announced that the Arizona Cardinals were now on the clock, the draft had officially begun. For a long time the Cardinals were expected to take Kyler Murray the 5’10 scrambler quarterback out of Oklahoma, who was also taken with the 9th pick in the Major League Baseball draft and was offered a huge contract by the team that drafted him, the Oakland Athletics, but he chose to…

NFL Off-Season Update: Trades & Signings

Since the end of the NFL 18-19 season, there have been many trades, signings, and rumors. The Jets signed RB Le’veon Bell to a four-year $52.5M deal. Rumors on this deal can be traced back to mid-September, during the 18-19 season. He missed the entire 18-19 season due to an injury. Hours before the it had been released to the public, he tweeted, “I’m back in the green baby, let’s get it.” Odell Beckham Jr. was traded to the Cleveland Browns. In return, the New York Giants received a first round pick in 2019 (No. 17 overall right guard Kevin Zeitler) and the Browns’ second third-round pick (No. 95 overall safety Jabrill Peppers. In addition, one of Odell’s closest childhood friends, Jarvis Landry was also traded to the Browns, which helped influence Odell to make his final decision. Running back Kareem Hunt was suspended by the NFL and then cut…

The AAF’s Launch

The AAF’s Launch The new spring football league, the AAF’s (Alliance of American Football) opening games were a big success and made a lot of people think that this league might have a chance of succeeding. Its launch came at a perfect time: it was announced on March 20th, 2018. The league’s games began after the subpar Super Bowl and the missed call during the NFC championship game. It also came after an NFL season filled with roughing the passer calls and defensive players being flagged for good hits. This new league aims to bring football back to the way it was before rule changes while also removing unnecessary parts of the game and adding totally new elements. The major rule changes include: no kickoffs, teams will start at their own 25, unless the team that would be defending decides to go for an onside conversion where they will have…

Eagles/76ers Update

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Eagles have both started their seasons. The Sixers have not played many games yet, but I have a review of the Sixers’ preseason. I also have a review of the Eagles’ season start so let’s get into it. The 76ers’ first game of the season was a loss to the Boston Celtics. I watched the entire game and from my perspective the Sixers seem to be rusty. The Sixers’ passing game was great, accumulating 18 assists with 8 coming from Ben SImmons. Last season’s Rookie of the Year showed that he had great court vision. The bond of the team was very high, but the SIxers turned the ball over 16 times. However, it is only the first game of the season, I think the Sixers can work their way out of the sloppy play. As for the preseason, the Sixers won three games…

Carson Wentz Returns

Carson Wentz returned to playing in the Eagles’ home game on Sunday, September 23rd to send them off with a win. What will the Eagles do with the quarterback on the field again? Wentz was out for most of last season after he tore his ACL. FCS student Elio Spagnuolo said that he was very happy and excited about Wentz’s return. The Eagles played a game against the Tennessee Titans and lost in overtime, which is a big surprise. History teacher Mr. Chagan said that he was optimistic and extremely happy about the return, but he admitted that there are still many problems with the Eagles including many injuries and the offensive line needs more practice. He also surprised me by saying that if back-up quarterback Nate Sudfeld had to come in to the game at some point he thought that Sudfeld is an upgrade from Nick Foles athletically because…
