Live Action “Lion King” Dream Cast

HI, FRIENDS! So, a live action Lion King movie has been announced! Now, the real question is: Who will be in the cast? So many great voice actors and regular actors in hollywood right now, so who to choose? Well, this is our dream cast of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. Simba – Donald Glover Donald Glover is a youthful and amazing performer. He is a comedian, actor, and musician who would make the role entirely his own. His voice is beautiful as he’s shown in his songs and he has just the right acting style for this role. Young Simba – Caleb McLaughlin Caleb McLaughlin (most known as Lucas from “Stranger Things”) would be perfect for young Simba. He is an amazing singer and fantastic actor, especially in stressful or tense scenes. He has already played this role on Broadway and would undoubtedly ace it. Nala – Lupita Nyong’o…

Top 5 Most Unique Directors

What does it mean to be a unique director? Unique directors put their own personal stamp on any project they touch, and all unique directors have very distinct styles in every aspect of their films. These are my top 5 favorite unique and one of a kind directors. Yorgos Lanthimos — The Lobster, Dogtooth, Alps Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek film writer/director who has made such films as “Dogtooth”, “Alps”, and most recently “The Lobster”. His films use strange plots and intriguing cinematography to draw audiences in and show them something that they’ve definitely never seen before. This man defies the notion that there are no original ideas anymore, thinking of movies like “The Lobster” which takes place in a world where people stay in a hotel and have 45 days to find love with someone else in the establishment. If they can not find a partner, they are turned…

7 Tips on How to Begin to Make a Video Game

So you want to make a video game? Well of course you do if you clicked this article! Well, here are a couple quick tips to get you started. 1. Have a Bit of Background Knowledge Though some programs don’t need it, it is always best to learn how to code. For video games, probably the best coding language to learn is C Sharp, but you can be fine with JavaScript. Codecademy is a great place to start. Also, play your favorite video games! Most people get inspired by playing other people’s games. You’re way more likely to have an idea for a video game if you play one. 2. Think of the Mechanics of the Game Before you think about story, characters, level design, power-ups, and more, try to think about the main mechanic you want to convey and base the other things around that. The Portal series is…

Balancing Fat Acceptance and the Health Craze

In the media, we are seeing more and more of people with varying shapes and sizes. The fat acceptance movement¹ is an ongoing movement trying to decrease the anti-fat bias held by much of society, as well as by many media companies. While it is a very criticized campaign, it is also widely praised; it is supposed to decrease stress around body image, and, because stress is a prominent factor in obesity, has proven effective. Even with this happening, we are also seeing a lot of “healthier” food and dieting options aimed towards losing weight. The contradicting developments both seem very positive in all senses, but in actuality neither are improving things. Instead, they have created two completely opposite poles while simultaneously focusing on exactly the wrong topics. Fat acceptance and “health” promotions are both about weight, when in actuality they should simply be about health. Health is a complicated topic….

Trump Approval Survey Results

Before the 2016 election, I sent out a survey asking the Friends’ Central community for their opinions on certain political and social issues. Now that we’ve elected a new president who has been in office for roughly five months, I felt that I needed to create a new survey specifically about our president. This survey had a turnout of 25 responses. That’s not a large number, but it’s a good enough sample of our community. The questions asked during the survey are as follows: Overall, do you approve of President Trump? How much do you approve of Trump? How much do you approve of VP Mike Pence? How much do you approve of Trump’s cabinet? Do you agree with Trump’s border wall proposal? Do you think that Trump is doing enough to address terrorism? Do you think that Trump is doing enough to address prejudice and hate crimes? Do you…

Review: Titan XP Graphics Card

The Titan X Pascal, considered the best graphics card you can buy… just got better. On April 6, 2017, Nvidia announced a new addition to their enthusiasts grade GPU family, the Titan XP. The Titan XP is incredibly fast and runs cool while doing so but that comes at a very, very, high cost. The Titan XP runs faster and a little cooler than its older counterpart, the Titan X Pascal, but besides the faster performance and slightly better cooling there isn’t that much different between the two. Today we will be looking at the specs, benchmarks, price and performance of the new Titan XP. The Titan XP is the best GPU on the market, and its spec are, as Elijah would say, BLAZINGLY FAST. Titan XP runs on the same GP102 die as the Titan X Pascal, but sports a fully unlocked version of the processor. The GP102 is…

Top 4 Pizzerias in Philadelphia

There are many great pizza shops in the city, but what are the best? Today I’ll be listing my top 3 favorite pizza shops in Philadelphia, and one of Ms. Kenealy’s favorites, too. 1. Stella’s Pizzeria is a great pizza shop if you’re going for quick and delicious food. The pizza here comes in many different styles. You can order alcohol, soda, and other drinks along with your pizza. Stella’s uses a wood fire oven to cook their wonderful pies. The main seating area is an open room with tall ceilings and lots of windows. It can seat a lot of people with the many chairs and tables, and I have heard that there is outdoor seating in the spring/summer. Service is always great and food always comes out fast. 2. Nomad Roman Pizza is easily the best thin-crust pizza I have ever had. Their pizza is so perfectly covered…

Film Review: The Shining

Made in 1980 Directed by Stanley Kubrick Novel by Stephen King Jack Torrence  volunteers to be the caretaker to The Overlook hotel over the course of five months and makes a long vacation out of it, bringing his family. But the isolation of the hotel along with other things send him into a state of insanity. Movie Details The Overlook Hotel — Setting The hotel that the Torrence family was taking care of and staying at was extremely unsettling. The silence of the hotel made even small noises much more impactful and the echoing element of the sounds gave viewers an idea as to how vast the space is. Also, it really reflects the reputation that different characters set up throughout the film. Camerawork The continuous tracking shots build a lot of tension and makes the audience feel more grounded in the situation that the family is in. There are…

The Elite Corners: Richard Sherman or Joe Haden?

Would you rather have Richard Sherman or Joe Haden on your NFL team? One of the biggest questions in the NFL’s free agency period right now is the Richard Sherman trade. The Seahawks have been willing to give up Sherman of late. He is one of the best cornerbacks in the league right now, and the Eagles biggest need is a cornerback. So you might be thinking that this is a win-win situation for the Eagles right. Well, not so much. Sherman is 29 years old, turning 30 next March. Sherman is a restricted free agent after this coming season. Well, who else could the Eagles trade for? Why not Joe Haden from the Browns? He’s only 27 years old, and he is a shutdown corner as well. Here are some of both of these players’ major stats: Haden has 19 interceptions since he was drafted, 4 forced fumbles, 4 fumble…
