Book Fair 2015: Ms. Schwoebel, Mrs. Guenther, and Mrs. Gordon Recommend…

If I Stay by Gayle Forman Recommended by: Ms. Schwoebel Ms. Schwoebel, reviewing If I Stay, said that it was a very well-written book. It is about a decision that a young adult girl faces that will impact her life’s path completely. Ms. Schwoebel stated that it was very sad and emotional, and “you had to be prepared, but it was totally worth it!” She told me that she couldn’t put it down until the end. Nir’s Top 20 Favorite Movies

Movies. Movies, movies, movies, movies, MOVIES! Even if you aren’t interested in movies, you can still appreciate the hard work the directors went through making movies. I myself am a fan of them, a lot of them. In fact, I animate because of them! So to celebrate my last article for now, these are my personal Top 20 favorite movies. There will be spoilers, so I’ll mention that if there are any. Just in case you’re interested in watching it, I’ll leave an MPAA rating to show if it’s inappropriate or not. PG is definitely appropriate, PG-13 means you have to be thirteen or older to watch it, and R is inappropriate. So sit back, relax, grab your popcorn and snacks and enjoy the show. #20 (PG-13) SPOILER ALERT!!! Although I’m not really that much of a religious person, the movie Noah is an astounding piece of work. Noah, the…

“Boyhood” Review

WARNING: BOYHOOD IS FOR MATURE AUDIENCES. IT INCLUDES FOUL LANGUAGE, ABUSE, DRINKING, AND SEXUAL INNUENDOS. THIS ARTICLE ALSO INCLUDES SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! If there’s one thing I hate, it’s the twenty-first century. Back in the early nineties and early 2000s, media and memes were funny, beautiful, and epic! Now, music’s bland and repetitive; people take selfies, twerk, and talk with text language/slang I don’t understand; the video game industry is filled with FPS (First Person Shooter) games; and it has ruined some great careers. *Cough cough* Charlie Sheen *cough* I like to call this the “Twenty-first Century Syndrome Theory,” but at least there’s still some things in media I consider amazing. In music, there are songs by bands and singers like Michael Jackson, a lot of country singers, and Sonitus Vir. As far as TV goes, the only shows considered gold could be Courage the Cowardly Dog and Gravity Falls. The video game industry…

October Reflections: LS Pumpkin Fair and Halloween Parade

by Zoe Shoemaker ’19, Contributor Friends’ Central’s annual Pumpkin Fair took place on Sunday, October 26. When I first got there, it brought back so many memories from when I went to the Lower School. Seeing all of the smiling kids made me so excited for the day ahead of me. Moving throughout the different booths, I loved seeing the kids who were so excited when I handed them a ticket. I wanted to do all I could to help the kids and make sure they had a great time. I later went into the haunted house where there was one little girl who was very frightened. I told her that everything was going to be okay and that the haunted house was not real and no one would hurt her. I was so happy to take her through the haunted house without a tear in her eye. One person came up to me and explained how volunteering…

App Unwrap: MyHomework

Everybody knows how hard keeping track of your homework assignments can be. While we do have Haiku, from my experience, Haiku is clunky, inconsistent, and hard to use. MyHomework, on the other hand, is an excellent app for keeping those homework assignments written down and ready to see as soon as you walk in the door of your house. What does it do? The MyHomework app allows you to record all your daily homework assignments, and then be able to see them when you need to do them. The app allows you to chronicle homework assignments, and set the due date, due time, subject, and even the priority. But all of this is optional, so you can leave the assignment blank except for a short description. Like Haiku, MyHomework has a calendar. Unlike Haiku, this calendar is for all subjects, not for one subject at a time. And, the calendar is…

Top 5 Video Games of 2014

I’m a gamer. I love the style, story, gameplay, and overall charm they bring. Now that there are only two more months left of this year, I’d like to introduce my Top 5 Favorite Games of the Year. The rules I have set for this list are only one per video game franchise or series, and it has to be released in 2014. Also, each game will have its own disclaimer, sharing its genre, just in case it’s one of those violent games. I don’t want any of you buying a game that you’re unhappy with. Also, some of the honorable mentions are violent, so that’s why. Now let’s get on with it, shall we? Genre: ACTION PLATFORMER (i.e. Super Mario Bros. & Sonic the Hedgehog) Sometimes, there’s that one thing that brings back your nostalgia. In the case of video games, there’s Shovel Knight. As far as the story…

Behind the Scenes

There are many community members at the Friends’ Central School who do amazing things but go unnoticed. There is trash often found outside of the Blackburn Library at the picnic tables, which is both disrespectful to our community members and disgusting. We, as a community, should clean up after ourselves and keep our campus beautiful.
