Dakota’s Weekly Movie Review

By: Dakota Diego-Brait ’26 This Week’s Movie: Identity Thief Starring: Melissa McCarthy (Diana) and Jason Bateman (Sandy Patterson) Age rating: 18+ Setting: Denver (where Sandy lives) and Florida (where Diana lives) Genre: Comedy   Disclaimer: IF YOU READ THIS IT CONTAINS SPOILERS SO DON’T COME UP TO ME AND GET MAD AT ME FOR SPOILING SOME STUFF. I WARNED YOU. About the movie: Basically, Diana steals people’s identities and buys herself whatever she wants. She then somehow finds out Sandy’s number (she probably just typed up a random number) and tries to sell him “Identity theft protection” over the phone. Therefore making him reveal all of his credit card information to her (very dumb move on Sandy’s part). Diana then goes and does illegal stuff, buys whatever she wants, and just creates disruptions everywhere she steps foot. Sandy then is arrested for doing all of these things even though he…

Avengers: Endgame Trailers Contained Fake, Old, and Edited Scenes

*WARNING: ENDGAME SPOILERS AHEAD* Avengers: Endgame will most likely be the biggest movie of the year. Its opening weekend alone put it in the top 20 highest grossing movies of all time, and as of May 8, 2019 it was at number 2, second only to Avatar. It was a truly incredible movie, full of surprises and twists sure to leave viewers dumbfounded. Due to the large scale of the movie, Marvel studios had to keep a lot under wraps. To do this, they altered some scenes in the trailer and filled in some old ones from the past. Here is a list of scenes from the trailer, that weren’t exactly a part of Endgame.   CAPTAIN AMERICA’S SHIELD   In the trailer, you may remember seeing a bloody, beaten up Cap strapping his shield to his arm, ready to fight Thanos. While this scene was included in the movie,…

Glass: A Controversial Movie

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the movie Glass. Glass may already be the most controversial movie of 2019 With critics on Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 36/100 and the audience giving it a 75/100, this movie has pulled up a lot of controversies. With Glass featuring the characters David Dunn, Kevin Wendell Crum (The Horde), and Elijah Price, people knew this was going to be an interesting movie. David Dunn has his movie Unbreakable, The Horde has their movie Split, and Elijah Price (Mr. Glass) is the villain from Unbreakable. This movie Glass is–if you could not guess it–about Mr. Glass. This movie combines the three characters into one big movie, with the main setting being a Mental Hospital.   Summary: At the start of the movie, we see two teenagers, one of them filming the other “Superman Punching” a random citizen. David Dunn then later breaks into their house…

Avengers and Captain Marvel Trailers Are Here!

The new Avengers and Captain Marvel trailers came out during the Superbowl commercials. I am going to be breaking down each of the trailers scene by scene.   Let’s start off with the Avengers trailer. The opening scene is just flicking through the whole MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), and then it cuts to the famous Marvel Logo. It cuts to three different shots of New York city. They filmed the Citi Field, The Statue Of Liberty, and a long shot. It cuts to a scene of a rehab group and Captain America saying, “Some people move on, but not us.” Then there are different shots of every Avenger getting ready for the final battle.  This movie sees the return of Ant Man. People have been going crazy over this because the ending of Ant Man and the Wasp, he was stuck in the quantum realm. This sequence of events ends…

New Grinch Recap & Review

GRINCH OVERVIEW Let’s just jump into it.   Now, The Grinch starts off with our beloved Grinch having a comedic encounter with his alarm, and is shown seeming to have trouble waking up. Despite this though, he has an extensive wake up routine that he is seen following every day as the movie progresses. In this wake up routine, we also get an earful of The Grinch soundtrack, but remixed to fit the current hip hop trend, with Tyler The Creator starring in the melody.   A little after some of the Grinch’s shenanigans, we are introduced to what seems to be our new main character, a Who mom who has trouble keeping up with her children whilst keeping the family afloat. But turns out it is actually the daughter of this mother that is the main character, a Who whose only Christmas wish is to make her mom happy….

Unlike many other Marvel movies, Into The Spider-Verse is animated.   Ratings: Ratings: Here are some of the ratings on a few websites. Rotten Tomatoes 9.9/10, IMDb 8.6/10, Metacritic 8.3/10, IGN 9/10, Google Users 9.7/10. The average rating all around is 9.1/10   Review: I saw Into The Spider-Verse recently and I really enjoyed it. It definitely deserved the ratings that it got. Every detail, like the little dots on the screen, was a throw back to the old comic books. Also, in some of the scenes, there are these text bubbles to really express what the character was feeling. This movie focused on telling the…

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Analysis

[Trailer included at the end of the article.] The Last Jedi trailer just came out and it has blown up with theories and ideas behind it. This is my theory of what is going to happen in the Last Jedi. Warning! If you want to go into the movie fresh, don’t read this. SPOILER ALERT! In the beginning of the movie, Rey meets up with Luke and asks him to train her in the ways of the Force, but he is afraid and refuses to train her. I think when Luke says, “I have seen this raw power before,” he is referring to himself and not Kylo. I think this because of how quickly Luke saw himself learn the Force without much training, while Kylo had years of training behind him. When Luke refuses to train Rey, she goes rogue and encounters Snoke. Snoke captures Rey and tries to take…
