As you may or may not know, Service-thru-ART is a group of students under the direction of Ms. Caroline Maw-Deis and the assistance of Mrs. Julie Gordon that helps beautify Friends’ Central School through their artistic talents. One of their most recent masterpieces, “Ying-Yang,” is a collage made out of a collection of [painted] bottle caps (partially provided by ART room recycler Julian M. Brenman) pasted on to a large cut out cardboard circle. This piece represents many things, including the fact that plain old trash can be put together to produce a beautiful piece of ART! However, Abby Donnenfeld ’20, a Service-thru-ART member, also added, “The ying-yang represents the good and the evil in all of us and that there is a little bit of everyone in everything. Nobody is black or white. We are all the same in some way.” This beautiful work can been seen on the bulletin board by the cash register in the dining hall.
