2014 Movie Previews

In the New Year, there are many new books, video games, and other media that we’ve been waiting for but, of course, there will also be new movies. I’m going to discuss my opinions on five trailers and rumors of upcoming movies. I’ll start with what the one that does not impress me too much and move on to the movie I look forward to the most. Don’t worry: since these movies have not come out yet, there won’t be any spoilers included! If you are interested in learning more about these movies, I included links for trailers for and footage of the movies.

Movie #5: Star Wars Episode VII

In case anyone doesn’t know, I am a huge Star Wars fan! Though when I heard that Disney bought Lucasarts, I was depressed. However, at least they might be making a seventh movie to the series. Now that Disney has announced that there might be a seventh Star Wars movie, so many questions have to be answered: What will the plot be? Who will the characters be? Will it be animated? When will it be released? The list goes on. For me, I’m not sure if the movie might be official. Heck, this movie poster is actually fan-made! Still, I cannot wait to see if this is a hoax or not.

Movie #4: The Familiars

Even though there has yet to be a trailer for the movie, I love The Familiars trilogy of books. Three years ago after I finished the final book, I saw that there will be a Familiars movie this year. I have waited a long time to see what the movie will be like, and there’s still no trailer. Will the movie be canceled? When will it come out? Will the movie be made for younger or older audiences? There are so many questions that I could ask, but I’m most curious to see if the movie stay true to the book’s actual plot? Many movies based on books take out important parts, and I hope The Familiars won’t be one of those movies.

Movie #3: Divergent

If you have not heard about the movie or the book, take a look at the movie. Divergent is a movie that takes place in the future with some new rules. When you turn 16, you must join a faction that could change the course of your life. Whether you’re either an intelligent Erudite, an honest Candor, a selfless Abnegation, a peaceful Amity, or a brave Dauntless, you’ll be doing some crazy stuff. The story follows Beatrice a.k.a. “Tris” who tests as “Divergent.” Though she does not know what it means to be a Divergent, she know that it is dangerous. Although the movie seems awesome, I am almost done reading the book, and there are some scenes in it that I do not want to see on screen. So, I’m not sure what will become of this story. Movie #2: Elysian Tail

Twelve years ago, Dean Dodrill had an idea for a movie called Elysian Tail. He worked on the movie for so long that he decided to take a break and work on another project for four years. In case you do not know, two years ago a video game came out called Dust: An Elysian Tail. To me, at least, it is one of the best games I have ever seen; it has a great story, over-the-top voice acting, a unique combat style, and an amazing soundtrack. I could talk about this game for ages, but let’s talk about the rumor of its movie: Elysian Tail. Elysian Tail is supposed to take place in the same world the game takes place (in Elysium) but the movie will have some different characters. Instead of Dust as the protagonist, our heroine is a mouse named Bonnie who lives with her squirrel sword-trainer, Leddinger, who has a daughter named Taka. Even though they are not related, Taka thinks of Bonnie as a big sister. Not much is known about the story itself, but I hope that it will be one of the best I’ll see. Here is 39 seconds of footage from the movie if you are curious. (Disclaimer: It has no sound and is very slow.)

Movie #1: Winter’s Tale

When someone makes a romantic movie, they have to be creative, sometimes including what happens later on or how the lovebirds meet. After watching its trailer, Winter’s Tale seems like a really great love story. The story begins in 1916 with the main character, Peter Lake. Peter is a thief who falls in love with the beautiful Beverly Penn, a woman slowly dying of tuberculosis. I do not want to spoil anything else, but I will give you a hint if you would like to watch it: While being chased by gangsters, Peter is saved by a mysterious horse named Athansor. By the look of the trailer, it seems like it will be a very heartwarming and sad movie, although it’s not a true story. It’s a love story. View the trailer here, if you are interested.

I hope that you will check out these recommended movies when they are released–especially Winter’s Tale. Even though I said that this is a list of upcoming movies, Winter’s Tale is actually out right now, so keep your eyes open!
