Grand Staircase Landscape

Shakespeare Mine/Henderson Canyon – 6800 foot elevation scrub vegetation, pinyon juniper with desert mountain brush. Gambel oak and sumac both present. Henderson Coal Zone and Drip Tank sandstone formations. Nemoria collected here May 2013. Borders GSENM wilderness study area.

Canaan Mountain – This site has intermediate elevations of 7200 – 7800 feet on the southwest slopes of Canaan Mountain.

Squaw Creek / Bull Run – This should be an excellent lower elevation collection site – mixed pinyon juniper adjacent to a slot canyon, this location is at a slightly lower elevation than Henderson Canyon (about 6100 feet) but is on a limestone layer (Carmel Formation) rather than sandstone, potentially supporting a slightly different group of plants and related species.
