Updating Apps

You should make sure you are keeping your apps updated. App developers are constantly adding new features of fixing bugs and you should make sure you have the latest version of your apps to prevent your apps from potentially stop working properly. There are two ways to keep your apps up to date: manually and automatically.

If you would like to have your apps be updated automatically, from your Settings app you can select to have your apps update automatically by moving the switch to green.

If you would like to manually update your apps, open the App Store app and at the bottom. press the Updates icon. If there are updates available, you can press the Update all button or update your apps one by one.

NOTE: We discourage users from downloading/updating apps while on campus. We have this feature throttled so that it does not take bandwidth away from other users. If you do download/update apps on campus, it will be extremely slow.

Installing Apps

The App Store icon on your iPad is one way to find apps for your iPad. Another great way to find app is to use Google.

For example,if you want to find the best puzzle games, doing a search on Google for “best ipad puzzle games” will yield better results than going through page after page of apps in the App Store. Simply go to Google and put “best iPad” followed by the type of app you are interested in finding. Once you’ve targeted a particular app, you can search for it in the App Store. (And many lists will contain a link directly to the app in the App Store.)

Once you find the app you are looking for, tap the button that has the cost inside of it(e.g. $.99) or tap the “get”(get means it is free or has in-app purchases) button. After it finishes downloading and installing, the icon for the app will appear on the last page of your iPad screen. You can rearrange its location on your iPad by holding your finger on any app until you see the app icons start to jiggle. Once they are jiggling, you can move any app you’d like to any other location you want for organization purposes. Apps can be placed into folders by moving an app over another app. Once the iPad recognizes that you are hovering over another app, a folder will appear that will insert your app inside a folder. There is no limit to how many apps you can place in a folder.

To get back to normal iPad use, press the Home button.

To uninstall an app, press any app on your screen until the apps start to jiggle. Once they are jiggling, a small “X” will appear at the top right of any app that Apple will allow you to uninstall. Press the “X” and the app will be removed from your iPad. Sometimes you will have to uninstall apps if you are low on space or you have an app that is misbehaving and one way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the app.

Once you have removed the app, pres the Home button to resume normal iPad operation.

What’s in your classroom

Classrooms are equipped with a projector that will be connected to a Chromebox and an Apple TV. You must be on the Faculty network to use the Apple TV. In many classrooms there is a DVD player with speakers. If you need a DVD player or your current one is malfunctioning, please submit a help ticket via our online help desk.

* The Middle School and Upper School classroom use Chromeboxes.
* We have Windows machines in each building’s faculty room that will provide you with a way to move any content that is still on the school servers.
* By moving this content to the cloud, you will be able to more easily and intuitively share this content with your students who will all have devices (iPads or laptops) that would not be able to connect to our servers.

We are always available to help those that need help navigating how to upload your old documents to Google Drive.

For those that are comfortable uploading their documents to Drive, there are Windows computers in the Main building faculty room, the FCC faculty room, and the Language building faculty room.
