Installing Apps

The App Store icon on your iPad is one way to find apps for your iPad. Another great way to find app is to use Google.

For example,if you want to find the best puzzle games, doing a search on Google for “best ipad puzzle games” will yield better results than going through page after page of apps in the App Store. Simply go to Google and put “best iPad” followed by the type of app you are interested in finding. Once you’ve targeted a particular app, you can search for it in the App Store. (And many lists will contain a link directly to the app in the App Store.)

Once you find the app you are looking for, tap the button that has the cost inside of it(e.g. $.99) or tap the “get”(get means it is free or has in-app purchases) button. After it finishes downloading and installing, the icon for the app will appear on the last page of your iPad screen. You can rearrange its location on your iPad by holding your finger on any app until you see the app icons start to jiggle. Once they are jiggling, you can move any app you’d like to any other location you want for organization purposes. Apps can be placed into folders by moving an app over another app. Once the iPad recognizes that you are hovering over another app, a folder will appear that will insert your app inside a folder. There is no limit to how many apps you can place in a folder.

To get back to normal iPad use, press the Home button.

To uninstall an app, press any app on your screen until the apps start to jiggle. Once they are jiggling, a small “X” will appear at the top right of any app that Apple will allow you to uninstall. Press the “X” and the app will be removed from your iPad. Sometimes you will have to uninstall apps if you are low on space or you have an app that is misbehaving and one way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the app.

Once you have removed the app, pres the Home button to resume normal iPad operation.

Troubleshooting Tips

Here are a few tips for troubleshooting the most common issues that may arise when using your iPads and other pieces of classroom technology:

If you experience issues with network connectivity or connecting to your Apple TV (or AirServer):

  1. Make sure you are connected to the FACULTY network. Students should connect to the iFCS network. You can check this from the “Settings” app on your iPad.
  2. Turn your WiFi off and back on. You can also do this from the “Settings” app or by swiping up from the bottom of your iPad and pressing the WiFi  button.
  3. Turn your iPad off and back on by holding down the button on the top right corner of your iPad. After a few seconds a slider will appear toward the top of the screen – slide to the right. Wait a few seconds and press the top corner button again to turn your iPad back on.

To fix many other iPad issues not related to network connections you should first try restarting your iPad using the directions in #3 above.

To fix many projection issues (such as color tints) try switching inputs back and forth between your desired input and other inputs on your projector.

(City Ave ONLY) To fix additional issues with Apple TV (not solved by steps 1-3 above) reset your Apple TV using an Apple TV remote control. Press “Menu” and “Down” at the same time and hold for six seconds.

  • Language Building – Faculty Office
  • FCC – Faculty Room
  • Shallcross – AirPlay in Shallcross classrooms are through the AirServer app installed on computers. Restart the computer connected to your projector instead.

Sync Veracross schedule to iPad iCal app

You can subscribe to your class schedule/calendar in Veracross so that all of your classes will appear in your iPad iCal app.

This can be extremely helpful for those new to the school, or for those who may need a daily reminder of their classes. We recommend all students and faculty members follow the steps below to get your Veracross class schedule into your iCal app!
