Limiting Choices on a Google Form

It’s the beginning of the year and you are trying to get students to make some choices in a Google Form and want them to choose their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc options. This can be accomplished easily with the Grid question type.

  1. Select the Grid question type.
  2. Enter the choices in the rows and the order in the columns. For this to work, you have to make sure the require one response per row and limit to one response per column options are checked. Otherwise they can make multiple choices in the columns or they can skip making a choice on the rows.Screenshot 2015-09-02 at 4.09.33 PM
  3.  Your Form will then present to the responders like this:preference_chooser
  4. Your spreadsheet data will then look like this:choices_data

Now you can see all of your respondents choices in a much easier to read manner when trying to determine who wants their desired choices. You also don’t run into students who may select the same choice twice or three times if you are asking them the same question 5 times in one survey.
